Competitive Courses Evening Inspires Aspiring Students

On Thursday, 3rd April, we held our annual Competitive Courses Evening at Beauchamp City Sixth Form, aiming to ensure that young people from all backgrounds have access to prestigious universities and competitive courses. The event attracted 185 attendees, including Year 12 students, parents, carers and representatives from seven universities.

The evening kicked off with an insightful session by Luke Maw from the University of Oxford, who discussed what prestigious universities look for in applicants and how to craft a winning personal statement. This was followed by a series of breakout sessions, each focusing on different fields of study:

  • Computer Science: Helen Whitby, University of Birmingham
  • Degree Apprenticeships: Abi Garner, Sheffield Hallam University
  • Economics: Charlotte Stone, University of Nottingham
  • Engineering: Ka’Mani Anderson, Loughborough University
  • Medicine: Nicola Lumb, University of Leicester
  • The Oxbridge Admissions Process: Luke Maw, University of Oxford
  • Psychology: Jess Haigh, Lancaster University

The evening concluded with a Q&A panel featuring all the guest speakers, providing attendees with the opportunity to ask questions and gain further insights into their desired courses and universities.

This event exemplifies the commitment to empowering young people to achieve their academic aspirations, regardless of their background, and sets a strong foundation for their future success.
