Duke Of Edinburgh's Award

Highly respected by employers and Higher Education, the DofE programme is known and celebrated for encouraging personal development and togetherness.

Each level of the Award has four elements that have to be completed typically over three to twelve months depending on the level:

Volunteering Voluntary work in the local community that could be combined with potential work experience e.g. Teaching, Coaching, Childcare.
Physical Regular participation in a sport or fitness activity e.g. Football or Netball
Skills Learn or improve a skill over a period of time e.g. Cooking or Music.
Expedition A two to four- day walking journey with camping to develop teamwork.
Residential Time away from home meeting new people in a different environment.

Experience tells us that the award at all levels provides a young person with new insights into their capabilities and by trying new things it helps confidence to grow plus develop useful skills.  The official Duke of Edinburgh’s Award website offers a lot more information (www.dofe.org).

Beauchamp City Sixth Form (BCSF) will be offering Silver and Gold levels of the Award and Students can enter directly or continue other levels of the Award with us. A dedicated Duke of Edinburgh Award Manager will support Students through to completion with advice, coaching and pastoral care on Expeditions plus BCSF will employ a specialised Outdoor Activity Provider (ADVENTURE EXPEDITIONS – adventure-expeditions.net). This carefully selected organisation fulfils the training, supervision and safety of all the Expeditions using Industry Accredited Outdoor Instructors (a DofE requirement) on a maximum 14:1 ratio, Student/Instructor and they provide well-maintained Group equipment e.g. Tents, Stoves and Maps.
