Attendance Expectations
Attendance Matters, Every Day
It is vital that all students have excellent attendance at Sixth Form. Research shows that even a few days of absence can have a negative impact on students’ performance. Beauchamp City Sixth Form is committed to working with students and parents/carers to achieve the Sixth Form’s attendance target of 97%. Beauchamp City Sixth form operates the following attendance grid when reporting to parents/carers:

Attendance Expectations
- The Sixth Form day begins at 8:35am and all students are expected to be on site by 8:30am for an 8:35am start regardless of the distance they have to travel or the mode of transport used. Students who arrive after 8:35am, will be met at the Sixth Form gate by a member of the Senior Leadership Team and an after-school detention is issued for the same day. Students arriving after 8:50am must sign in at the Student Support Centre.
- According to DFE guidelines, registers must close after 30 minutes, therefore any student arriving after this time cannot receive a late mark and has to be marked with an unauthorised absence for the session.
- The Sixth Form operates an Absence Reach System to notify parents/carers if their young person has not arrived at sixth Form. Absence Reach is an automated system that will alert parents when a student is late or absent to morning or afternoon (if appropriate) registration. The system will attempt to contact you via phone and email and will prompt you to provide a reason for the student’s absence. Absence Reach will make contact if you have not informed us before 8:30am.
- Absence Reach will call you from an external number: 0114 303 4042. This number does not take calls.
- Absence Landline: 0116 4979330 Option 1 – this should be used for calls If the call is not answered, please leave a message.
- Absence Mobile: 07908665776 – this should be used by parents to send texts
- Parents/carers can help by notifying us in advance by calling or emailing The Attendance Team about planned absences and arranging medical or dental/optician appointments outside the Sixth Form day, where possible.
- Beauchamp City Sixth Form requests that parents/carers contact the Sixth Form either by calling or emailing before 8:00am to let us know if their son/daughter is going to be absent.
- Parents/carers are strongly advised to avoid taking their son/daughter on holiday during term time and requests during term time will not be authorised. In exceptional circumstances, written requests for extended leave should be made in advance to the Principal. Please be aware that there are assessments and trial exams throughout the academic year.
Tutors and members of the Student Support Centre regularly hold Attendance Matters conversations with students so that they realise the importance of high levels of attendance.
Students and parents/carers are actively encouraged to keep track of students’ attendance through the Beauchamp City Sixth Form Beehive portal.

Regular attendance at school is the most important factor in a young person reaching their full potential.
Please be aware that if a student has had ½ days (1 session) absence by 30th September, they will have 97% attendance, which is the Sixth Form attendance target. If they have missed 1 day (2 sessions) they will have 95% attendance. If your child’s attendance percentage falls in the first term, this will improve as the year progresses if they do not have any further absences.
Beauchamp City Sixth Form rewards students who have excellent attendance through a half-termly prize draw to win vouchers.
- If there are any circumstances which might affect your child’s attendance, or you have any queries, please contact the Attendance Team on the contact details below.
