FAQs

The school will have 350 places in Year 12 for students wishing to study a traditional A Level curriculum to include sciences, maths, economics and computing, along with a range of facilitating subjects and enrichment opportunities. This curriculum will prepare students for progression to the most prestigious universities and higher level apprenticeships in order to embark on professional careers including those in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Any student from Leicester or Leicestershire can apply for a place at the school providing they meet our minimum entry requirement and have a love of their chosen A level subjects. We will shortly upload our admissions policy which will explain in more detail our entry requirements. In October and November 2019, we will be visiting as many schools as possible to share information about the school, and also running an open day where parents and students can find out more. Please register your interest on our website.

The school has a projected opening date of September 2020.

The building is located on the corner of South Albion Street and Dunkirk Street and will be completely refurbished in order to provide state of the art teaching spaces for Chemistry, Physics and Biology, along with access to high quality computing facilities.  The location is central and means that most students will be able to get to the College with a single bus or train journey.

Students will be required to study a minimum of three A level courses, two of which must be ‘facilitating subjects’ as defined by the most prestigious universities and must be selected from: Biology, Chemistry, English Literature, Geography, History, Physics, Modern and classical languages, Maths and Further Maths.  Further choices can be made from: Classics, Computing, Economics, Geology, Psychology, Sociology and Business.  In addition students will be required to study at least one enrichment option from: Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), International Financial Services (IFS), Core Maths or Academic Literacy.  Further information about the link between this curriculum model and prestigious universities can be found here: https://russellgroup.ac.uk/for-students/school-and-college-in-the-uk/subject-choices-at-school-and-college/.

Russell Group also publish a document called “Informed Choices” which highlights the preferred A level combinations for particular academic routes.  This document can be found here: https://www.russellgroup.ac.uk/media/5686/informed-choices-2018-1-6th-edition-final.pdf

By specialising in facilitating A Level subjects the new school will bring together students with a common interest so that they can learn from each other and be inspired. All teachers will be highly qualified subject specialists with a passion for their subject, ensuring high standards of education. The school will be purpose built in order that facilities are up to date, fit for purpose and stimulating.

However we passionately believe that in order to develop the work force of the future and ensure that our students are the best possible candidates for university, apprenticeships and employment we need to go beyond the teaching and physical environment. We have therefore already made strong links with both Leicester and Loughborough University so that students can access their facilities and subject specialists. We will also ensure that each week a guest speaker comes into the school to share their passion for a range of careers and industries and so inspire students and, most importantly, we are guaranteeing all students a work placement/internship in the summer of Y12.
